Golf Club Fitting is an essential step in
the progression of your game. Understanding how fitting works and why
it is so critical is an exciting aspect that will give you renewed confidence,
and help improve the consistency and fundamentals of your swing.
In order to provide my students with the best chance of improvement,
I provide a golf club fitting service that is sure to aid in your development.
My goal as an instructor is to provide highest quality equipment at
the best value. Buying golf clubs should be like buying a pair of shoes.
First we make sure the shoe fits for comfort and purpose, and then we
consider the price. We all have a different body and build, so clubs
should have that fit that build.
Golf clubs should be fit for length, shaft weight, shaft flex, shaft
type, club head design, lie of the club, grip style and grip size. Each
of these factors will influence the consistency of contact, distance,
and trajectory.
Example
The lie of the club is one I will consider. This is the relationship
or angle of the shaft and the sole of the club head. It can vary
up to 12 degrees. When fitting for lie angle we use a special
tape that is placed on the sole of the club. A series of shots
are then taken using a lie board, and the markings are then examined,
to determine where the sole of the club is contacting the ground.
These marking will tell us to either adjust the length of the
club or the shaft vs. sole angle. Every 2 degrees will effect
to fly approx. 5-7 yards off line with the perfect swing. The
flight of the shot is affected the same way for a club that is
1 inch to long or to short.
2 degrees to upright- 5-7 yd. pull
2 degrees to flat- 5-7 yd. push
1 inch to long 5-7 yd. pull
1 inch to short 5-7 yd. push
This is just one example of how a non-fitted club will affect
your game.
